About Notify

Notify Technology delivers a comprehensive health, safety, environment and quality (SHEQ) software platform used by organisations around the world. Their mobile-first apps and cloud-based modules give frontline workers and safety teams the tools to manage inspections, report incidents and stay compliant.

The challenge

Notify had an existing Xamarin-based mobile app, approaching end-of-life. The organisation faced a high-impact decision: transition to Microsoft's replacement framework, MAUI, or to rebuild using another technology.

Their challenges included:

• Limited in-house mobile experience
• The CTO had limited capacity to lead the evaluation
• It was a high-impact project requiring external validation to secure board and SLT confidence.

The solution

• I conducted stakeholder mapping to identify key influencers and reporting lines.
• I ran discovery workshops and interviews with Engineers, Product, Support and Exec Team to capture requirements, constraints, and goals.
• I performed a technical assessment of MAUI, uncovering critical immaturity indicators (e.g., 2,500+ open issues, memory regressions, slow bug turnaround, reliance on experimental branches).
• I recommended React Native as the best-fit solution for Notify’s context, including a phased migration strategy and team structure.
• I worked iteratively with the CTO and stakeholders to ensure alignment and buy-in throughout the process.

The results

Board-approved Recommendation

The recommendations were presented to the board and SLT. The board approved the React Native migration and allocated budget.

The existing team successfully cross-skilled, and delivered a modernised app with a consolidated codebase, improved UX, and future-proofed tech stack.
